E.E. Cummings
Here. So you understand why I chose my blog address, "eyesareopened":
i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;this is the birth
day of life and love and wings:and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
- E.E. Cummings
I might not be the most religious person, but I know how you feel, Edward Estlin. It's exactly what I think when I'm scuba diving or hiking in the rainforest. Hopefully, that feeling will come to me frequently in the next few years!
Ah, now this one is more well-known and obvious. Here is where I got the title of my blog from:
somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near
your slightest look will easily unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose
or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing
(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
- E.E. Cummings
Let's make it clear that this blog is definitely not about my travels into the land of romance -- I admit, I'm taking some artistic license. But I'm sure Ed wouldn't mind, right?
That should be the last post not related to Peru. Now, on with my travels:
